The LowLine

Chicago, IL

The main attraction of our Lakeview Area Master Plan, the LowLine would activate the currently dingy underbelly of the Brown Line El tracks with native plants and solar lamps to connect and beautify the neighborhood. Reclaiming unused parcels of land for public use is a great way to encourage pedestrian activity, and to inject sorely needed public domains into urban areas. The LowLine would enhance the acerbic glow of streetlights with the soft light of solar-powered lanterns and local art. Native Illinois flowers, grasses and Japanese ferns will require no maintenance or irrigation, not to mention waft lovely scents and improve the urban environment for pedestrians.
